Angel’s Feather ~ Alina Popescu

Angel's Feather Alina Popescu

Gay science fiction novella Angel’s Feather, the first book in the Flyer Chronicles series, has just been released.

Angel’s Feather Synopsis

How far would you go for the one you love? How much of yourself would you sacrifice?

Trapped on a decaying Earth and cut off from the rest of the Universe, humans are no longer allowed to leave their planet. Break this one law and you die: a penalty enforced by flyers, aliens who look like angels of long-lost religions. Michael, the flyers’ leader, is the Punisher who carries out every public execution.

Adam, a young human with near-perfect memory, is committed to rebuilding Earth and a true believer in the flyers’ dominion. While Adam’s support for flyers isn’t a secret, his deep love for Michael is. Not even Michael knows, for his kind never take human lovers, and to Adam, they are too far above him to reach.

In his broken and unwelcoming world, Adam’s love can only lead to pain, loss, and disaster. Yet there is no force in the huge expanse of stars and galaxies that can stop Adam from following Michael to the end of existence. Not even Adam’s own beliefs.

Angel's Feather by Alina Popescu

“Fucking bastard! Forcing you to repeat their alien laws after having killed your father in front of your mother and his entire family. He has no respect for our pain.” It wasn’t a new litany, but today of all days it grated me more than it usually did.

“Uncle, why should Michael care when my father clearly didn’t? If he loved us, if he was worried about what his death would do to Mother, he would have stopped when she asked him.”

My uncle’s eyes darkened, his face twisting in an ugly snarl. “Ungrateful bastard! Your father must be ashamed of you. He did everything for you!”

“For me?” I couldn’t stifle the cold laughter so I let it bathe me. “If he wanted to do something for me, he should have worked harder to put food on the table and clothes on my back. Mend the land and get the crops to thrive. How would flying elsewhere help me?”

The strike came out of nowhere. My uncle was fast for an old man. The sharp pain spread through my now burning cheek as I struggled to push up from where I’d fallen. Before I could, my uncle was all over me, pushing, hitting, and yelling in my face. “Ungrateful little prick! You should have been stillborn. A shame to your father and our family name, you are!”

“Let the boy go,” Michael said in a steady voice. The sound of it made me feel safe, sending tingles of happiness through my reeling mind. The pain of the hits subsided and I knew no more of it will come. At least not today.

“This is not your business, damned beast. You cannot interfere,” my uncle said, releasing me enough to twist his upper body and glare at Michael.

“I am not required to interfere, true. I choose to,” the flyer said, tilting his head and smiling coldly at my uncle. “Do you wish to find out who of us prevails if you challenge me, mortal?”

An Interesting Find by Lucy Felthouse

Out Now—An Interesting Find by Lucy Felthouse (@cw1985) #menage #military #gay

Nathan and Lee are on a relaxing summer holiday in the UK. They plan to do lots of walking and exploring in the beautiful English countryside. Naturally, typical British weather derails their plans on their first day, leaving them cooped up indoors with little to do but read.

When the weather clears, the men eagerly put on their hiking boots and head out for a walk. However, when they reach their destination—a pond a little distance from their holiday cottage—they make a shocking discovery. An odd-looking bundle of rags turns out to be an unconscious man. With no one else around, and no mobile phone signal to call for help, they manage to get the stranger back to their cottage to get him warm and dry, and figure out what to do next.

When their unexpected house guest regains consciousness, however, things just get more complicated. The stranger—a British soldier called Jonny—doesn’t want the authorities to be notified of his presence. As the three men try to come to some agreement, the sexual tension in the air becomes apparent, and suddenly the last thing on any of their minds is leaving the cottage…

Closing his book with a very final slap, Nathan then put it on the coffee table in front of him. He leaned back in his chair. Stretching languidly, he said, “Bloody good, that was. Though, admittedly, I thought it’d last me all week. Wasn’t expecting to get through it on day one.”

Raising an eyebrow, Lee shot Nathan an amused glance. “Not far off myself. Fucking storm. Stupid us, eh, going on holiday in the UK in summertime—not like you can guarantee the sodding weather, is it? Should’ve gone to the Canaries.”

“No, we can’t guarantee the weather, but…” Nathan gave the window a sidelong glance, “I do have some good news.”

“Yeah. The torrential downpour has stopped.”

“Seriously?” Lee slammed his own book closed and scurried over to the window. “Oh, wow, it’s cleared right up, and I can see a rainbow. Wanna head out? Just a little wander down to that pond we saw on the way here, maybe? Get some fresh air. We’ve got loads of daylight left, haven’t we?”

Nathan checked his watch. “Yeah, plenty. Especially if we’re only nipping to the pond. It’s probably only a fifteen-minute walk.”

“Fantastic. I was going a bit fucking stir crazy in here. I’ll grab our coats and shoes.”

Lee had disappeared into the hallway of their rented holiday cottage before Nathan had the chance to reply. Shaking his head with a smile, Nathan collected their empty mugs from the coffee table and took them into the kitchen, then got a bottle of water from the fridge. He doubted they’d need a drink during their short trek along the road, but he could just shove the bottle in his coat pocket and forget about it. At least it’d be there if they wanted it.

When he returned to the living room, Lee was just about to tie up his laces.

“I got water,” Nathan said, brandishing the bottle.

“Cool. Shoes are there.” He nodded to the chair Nathan had been sitting in. Sure enough, his trail shoes were waiting on the floor in front of it.

Within a few minutes, they were headed out of the door. Nathan locked up, pocketed the key, then checked the handle. He doubted very much the place would get broken into—they were in the middle of nowhere, after all. There were farms nearby, but the closest village was about a mile and a half away. So any thieves would have to make a considerable effort to get to the cottage in the first place, never mind attempt to break into it. Rolling his eyes at his own paranoia, he turned and followed Lee, who’d already started walking slowly along the road in the direction of the pond.

After falling into step beside Lee, Nathan pulled in some deep breaths, enjoying the fresh air after being cooped up in the cottage. It was a beautiful and cozy place, but it was supposed to be a base for them to go walking—somewhere for them to eat, sleep and shower, not to be stuck in for hours on end, staring at the walls. Or climbing them.

He admired the rainbow as they walked, its vivid colors painted across the watery sky. It seemed the clouds had literally exhausted themselves—only occasional wispy streaks of white now interrupted the never-ending blue. The sun beamed down, heating up the ground and beginning to evaporate the huge puddles. It would take some doing—one such puddle stretched across the width of the road, and they had to skirt around its edge to avoid getting wet feet.

Nathan smiled. Though the storm itself had been grim, the washed-out aftermath made everything feel fresh, clean somehow.

“You look thoughtful,” Lee said, breaking into his reverie. “A penny for them?”

“Mmm. It’s one of those things that sounds better in your head than said out loud.”

“Try me.”

Shrugging, Nathan replied. “Nothing major. Just admiring the rainbow, the sky, the clouds… Thinking how everything looks so fresh and clean after a good storm. Like it’s been purified, or something… Ugh, it’s stupid.”

Lee stopped and reached for Nathan’s hand. His green eyes were wide and filled with wonder. “No, it isn’t. Not at all—I was thinking something similar myself. It’s kinda romantic, isn’t it? Purification, rebirth, and all that.”

“In a roundabout way, maybe. I dunno.” He shrugged again.

Lee’s eyes narrowed, and his lips curved into a wicked grin. “We could make it romantic.”

“How so?”

“Come here, and I’ll show you.” Still gripping Nathan’s hand, Lee tugged him close and moved in for a kiss. Nathan went into the embrace willingly, the smile on his face soon smothered by Lee’s hot lips.

Excerpt 1

He was about to take a seat when the door opened. He turned and froze. The kid who he’d rescued the night before was standing in the doorway, his dark eyes narrowing as their gazes connected.

“Carter, this is Brett’s appointment, Mr. Hendel,” the receptionist said.

The kid moved close and stuck out his hand. Matt hesitated before he took it, giving the guy a firm shake. “Hello.”

“It’s nice to meet you,” Carter said as he offered a tight smile that made him look a little insecure, or that’s what Matt thought. Maybe he was secure but annoyed that Matt was here. “Come on back. Brett is busy finishing up a phone call. I have your items set up in the conference room.”

Matt hesitated as he contemplated what type of trick was being played on him. Eventually he followed, glancing down, catching a look at Carter’s ass. He tripped, almost spilling his coffee. Carter looked over his shoulder, lifting his brows.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah, loose carpet.”

Carter looked doubtful, but Matt knew enough to deny he’d been looking at Carter’s butt and had been distracted. The man may have been beyond sexy, his two perfect round globes of his ass calling for Matt to squeeze them, but he was off limits because he was too young.

Heat filled Matt, making sweat pop out on his brow. How old was this man? Obviously, he’d made a mistake in judgement. The guy couldn’t be as young as Matt thought he was, or maybe he was that young and was here as a receptionist. Heck, he’d already met the receptionist so this man had to be someone else. His mind spun as he contemplated who the guy could be.

Carter stepped into a room and Matt followed, wishing he was here for something other than work. When the guy turned, Matt caught his gaze and stilled, trying not to gasp at the intensity in the young man’s eyes. Carter reached around and shut the door, frowning before he gave Matt a tight smile.

“Thank you for last night. I wasn’t thinking a Blue Spider concert would be the type of place where I’d get attacked. Actually, I haven’t been out much since college.”

Matt gasped. “Since college? How old are you?” His cheeks heated even more and he was glad he had the thick beard covering half his face. The question was rude and he should have kept his mouth closed but he wanted to know.

Carter smirked and shook his head. “Kid, is that what you called me last night? And my mommy died a few years ago.”

His heart sunk and he felt terrible. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t know.”

“It’s okay. It was a long time ago and I’ve come to terms with her death.”

Matt drew in a short breath, his heart fluttering. “So you didn’t answer, how old are you?”

The door opened and Matt turned to see a man who looked like Carter, but was older. “Mr. Hendel, I’m Brett. I hope Carter—oh, it looks like you stopped for coffee.”

“Yes, thank you.”

“Carter will be working with us on this project. He’s young but has some fresh ideas. I like his style.”

Matt nodded, reassessing Carter’s age. The man was a lot older than he’d thought. “Sure. I’m excited to see what you have for me.”

Excerpt 2

Carter whipped around and saw Matt carrying a box on one shoulder. His stomach did that little flip thing that made him feel warm inside. Jace grunted beside him and stepped closer which made Carter hop off the stool and move away from him. He didn’t like feeling trapped and Jace made him feel out of sorts. How could one man make him feel so uncomfortable in such a bad way?

“I wasn’t going to do anything,” Jace said.

“Just leave him alone. He already said he wasn’t interested. Just freaking leave him alone.”

“God, Matt, who got your panties in a twist?”

Jace stumbled off and Carter felt better until Matt grabbed him by the upper arm and tugged him down a hall to a storage room. He slammed the door behind them and Carter was shoved up against the wall. Matt held him there with one hand, his eyes narrowed.

Carter’s dick grew hard as he stared into Matt’s dark eyes, wondering what it would be like to be kissed by the man. He’d never kissed a guy with such an impressive beard. He wanted to feel that beard on his skin, sliding over his chest and belly. Hell, he wanted that beard between his legs, rubbing against his balls.

“What the hell is wrong with you? Do you live for danger?”

“No, I just thought—”

“Coming down here meant you weren’t thinking. This isn’t the kind of place for you.”

Anger flashed hot and he straightened. “What does that mean?”

Matt’s gaze didn’t waver as he stared at Carter, his eyes blazing with anger. Then his look softened as he glanced down, staring at Carter’s lips. His fingers toyed with Carter’s earlobe and he leaned in, shortening the distance between them.

“Unless you want something.”

A shiver raced over Carter and his breath stalled in his lungs. Carter thought he spied a knowing smile curving up the corners of Matt’s mouth. Matt leaned in closer and slid his nose over Carter’s hairline. Matt’s beard tickled him and the gasp that escaped his lips was as unwelcome as the sudden lengthening of his cock. For some reason, he didn’t want Matt to know he wanted him like this. Carter wanted to be able to tell Matt he’d just come for a beer, or maybe something else, but not because he wanted to see him and touch him. It changed the balance of power and he wanted to keep this man guessing. But now, there wasn’t anything Matt had to guess about because Carter was showing all his cards.

Matt chuckled as he slid one hand down Carter’s side and around to his ass. They both groaned as he squeezed. He was in dangerous territory but he wanted to be here. If Matt spun him around and shoved his pants low he would take it, because he wanted this man as sure as he breathed air. His nightly fantasies had featured Matt, and he would be lying to say he wasn’t affected by the big guy’s muscles, or the intensity of his gaze.

“Tell me, Carter, what do you want?”

The words were frozen inside and he couldn’t get them out. His vision spun as his cock grew even harder. His physical reaction to this man went beyond what anyone else had ever inspired in him.

Matt moved his hand, hovering over Carter’s cock. He moved back just enough so his gaze was drilling into Carter’s. “Tell me to stop and I won’t even try to find out if you want me. But if you don’t stop me, I’m going to touch you.”

Carter sucked in a breath and pressed his hips forward. The flash of heat made his mind spin as Matt’s fingers brushed over his dick.

“Oh fuck,” Matt whispered. “Good lord, that’s huge. Fuck, how many men have you found that can take that?”

Another round of heat filled his face. He’d heard it before. Guys said all sorts of things to him because of his dick.

“Sorry, I sound like a tool now, don’t I? I was just surprised—”

“That I have such a huge dick?”

Matt leaned in close, his lips at Carter’s ear. “Don’t leave. I get off in an hour. Come home with me and I’ll do whatever you want.”

Carter’s breath hitched as Matt’s declaration sunk in. “So if I want to fuck you, you’d do that?”

Matt shivered then ran his tongue up the side of Carter’s face from his chin to his ear. “You can face fuck me, fuck my ass, ride me like a horse, it’s your choice.”

Carter pressed his teeth into his lower lip, trying to keep from coming as Matt squeezed him again. “Oh God.” The words escaped his lips before he could stop them.

“Come on, I need to get back on bar and finish up. Don’t leave your seat though unless you need to use the restroom—scratch that, use the employees room right now and don’t leave your stool. I need to know you’re safe.” Matt led him deeper into the back area and opened a door, flipping on a light. “No one but me should be back here. Come out and sit at the stool on the end when you’re finished. I don’t want anyone thinking they can drag you outside.”

He nodded and watched as Matt walked away. Carter closed the door and leaned against the solid surface for a few seconds before spinning quickly to turn the lock. Matt had said no one would be back here, but he didn’t trust that he would be left alone, not after what had happened the last time he’d been here.

Why had he come here again? He knew it was too rough of a place for him. But the draw of seeing Matt was too huge to ignore. After splashing cold water on his face, he stood in front of the toilet waiting for his cock to deflate.

Once done in the bathroom, he made his way to the bar and hopped up onto the stool on the end, watching Matt as he filled orders and restocked the bar. The man was amazing. Carter fantasized about Matt’s hands on him, his lips kissing him everywhere, his cock filling him perfectly, and it was almost too much.

When a lull in the crowd left Matt with nothing to do he came over and placed a drink in front of Carter. He lifted the glass, almost afraid of what Matt had given him. Hesitantly he sipped at the liquid, surprised when it tasted bitter instead of sweet or burning.

“What is this?”

“Club soda,” Matt said as he downed a shot.

“Wait, why are you slamming shots and I get club soda?”

Matt winked and then leaned across the bar, his eyes never leaving Carter’s face. “I need you to be sober so you know exactly what you’re doing, but if I’m going to take that monster, I need a little liquid courage.”

He passed Vin the shopping bags he was carrying and grabbed the tree, taking it inside his building. The ancient elevator seemed to be big enough to fit only the tree, so Luca had the idea to stuff it inside, press the button for the third floor, then race up the stairs to meet it on his floor. Vin was laughing too hard to be able to climb the stairs fast enough to catch the elevator, especially carrying all the shopping bags. When he made it to the second floor he heard Luca’s colorful curses and the mechanical whirl of the elevator moving again.

“There was nobody downstairs a moment ago!” Luca cried in outrage when Vin finally joined him on the third floor.

“I saw an old lady carrying a Pomeranian walk in when I started up the stairs,” Vin said, panting, dropping the bags on the floor unceremoniously. “And by the way, I could have stayed downstairs and sent the elevator up after you made it to the third floor.” Luca stared at Vin with wide eyes – obviously that thought hadn’t even occurred to him. “Just saying.”

“Why is there a Christmas tree in the elevator?” A faint female voice carried up the several flights of stairs, followed by a dog barking.

“Sorry, Signora Mortelli,” Luca shouted, leaning over the banister. “The tree is mine. Long story. Could you please send it to the third floor and I’ll unload it as fast as I can?”

“Luca Romano, is that you?”

“Yes, Signora Mortelli.” He lowered his voice and looked at Vin over his shoulder. “Why isn’t she pressing the fucking button?”

“I don’t know, man. This whole thing is too ridiculous to try and make any sense of it.”

Luca stared at Vin as if he couldn’t quite grasp what Vin’s problem was.

“When did you come back, caro?” Signora Mortelli’s voice carried up the three flights of stairs.

“Yesterday.” Luca huffed in exasperation, taking his keys out of his pocket and tossing them to Vin. “This can take a while.” Vin grinned at him as he caught the keys.

“Are you spending Christmas alone again this year?” The old lady yelled.

“Signora Mortelli, please just press the button and send the tree back up, please,” Luca called down the stairs, resting his head against the wooden banister.

Vin unlocked the door, transferred the shopping bags to the floor inside the apartment, and leaned against the door frame, curious to see how this would unfold. A sound came from downstairs, then some banging, the dog barking, and finally the elevator started moving again.

“Thank fuck,” Luca muttered, straightening to meet the elevator.

When it arrived at the third floor, Luca cursed under his breath before schooling his features into a polite smile and pulling the door open.

“Signora Morelli. How did you fit in here?”

Being twitchy, impatient, loud and hasty are not qualities that help a writer, because I have to sit alone, preferably still, and write for most of the day, but I absolutely love it. It’s the only time that I’m truly at peace and the only thing I can do for more than ten minutes at a time – my son has a bigger attention span than me.

When I’m procrastinating, I like to go to the gym, cook Italian meals (and eat them), read, listen to rock music, watch indie movies and True Blood re-runs. Or, in the worst case scenario, get beaten at every Nintendo Wii game by a very inventive kid.

Don’t be shy and get in touch – I love connecting with my readers.

The Haunting of Angus Macgregor Tour banner

Angus Macgregor has endured a lot in life. Mother passing when he was a small child, he also nursed an ill father to his last breath. But when he loses his one remaining relative, an uncle he’s never met, his existence is turned on its head forever. Bequeathed Clan Gregor Castle in the Scottish Highlands, Angus leaves Australia behind to take on the family business. It’s there he finds more waiting for him than he ever dreamed possible.

Daniel Ramsey is a man with secrets, none more dangerous than the fact that he can see what others can’t. When he meets one particularly handsome Australian, the attraction is immediate. Hesitant to let down his guard, his hand is forced when a former guest of the castle comes calling and attempts to stake a claim on the very man Daniel wants.

Angus slid the stable door open and stepped inside, feeling raw and vulnerable when Daniel’s eyes began to traverse his body from head to toe.

“Weel, don’t ye look every part the horseman.”

“Don’t let this get-up fool you, mate. It’s been years since I’ve ridden,” Angus confessed, scrunching his nose at the pungent odour of manure and animal that filled the dusty air.

Daniel let out a hearty laugh and wandered toward the spacious stall where two horses munched on their breakfasts of hay. One of the animals was a pretty Bay with a black mane and tail, the other a pale grey and quite a lot larger.

Growing up in the suburbs of Sydney meant there had been little opportunity for Angus to go horse riding. The only times he had done so were when he was a boy; first in Centennial Park for a childhood friend’s tenth birthday, and again at his high school summer camp on the Hawkesbury River. On both occasions his mounts had been old nags, each preferring to graze rather than gallop, but these two animals appeared far livelier.

“I’m sure ye’ll do just fine, Angus.”

His heart stuttered at the seductive sound of Daniel saying his name for the first time. The Scot’s tone of voice, which had dropped a few octaves, was so damn sexy.

About the author

J. HARRIS is a mother, wife, an introvert and author. Her family is her life, her soul, and the very reason she gets out of bed every day. Coming a close second is her writing.

She discovered a passion for putting pen to paper in her later years, jotting down poems in birthday cards for family members.

It was then a spark was lit, and ever since, she hasn’t been unable to switch off the urge to share her stories.

L.J. Harris discovered that as much as experiencing pain, loss and betrayal can be devastating, capturing the feelings of anguish and loss that some of her characters have had to endure without firsthand knowledge would have proved difficult.

L.J. has been previously published and has shared several online stories and looks forward to continuing to share her work.
