From Me to You

Ahhh! The coming down from the food coma from Thanksgiving! I held it here at home. My parents came up and it was just the six of us with mountains of food. Luckily nothing will go to waste. I’ve learned a lot of ways for turkey to be reused, lol.

Thanksgiving cooking and clean up were easy. I did everything but the turkey and desserts in the slow cooker. I had 5 of them lined up on the counter. I’d have used more but I lost the lid to one. Probably given a new home when my husband put the dishes away. It is a matter of finding it!

So, what do you normally have? My lineup star was the Turkey, followed by stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, cranberries and green bean casserole. For dessert we had pumpkin pie, apple pie, mint chocolate cheesecake and rocky road fudge.

We have leftovers of everything! I cooked enough for at least twelve when we only had six. So thanksgiving dinner will be what we have for the next few days, lol.

I made everything from scratch. Trial and error guided me. I will never attempt cranberries again! Store bought for me. I followed an online recipe and it was way too sour for me. I tried saving it, but that was a no go! They were the only leftovers I didn’t save. The carrots and sweet potatoes were candied. Brown sugar and butter were nummy! Since we are diabetic (hubby and I) I used the splenda brown suger. You couldn’t even tell.

The cheesecake (it is soooo good), came from a recipe book from the cheesecake contest that is held here yearly. We have a Kraft plant in town, so it is one of the highlights I look forward to. You can taste test all of the cheesecakes that day. Yummy, yummy! I only changed it up a little. I made the crust from oreo cookies. You can purchase the cook book of previous winners. Since I love cheesecake and I collect recipe books I couldn’t pass it up. It turned out delicious. Of course it WAS one of previous winners!

So on top of that, I’ve been sick all week. I’ve been crawling out of bed each day to work. Black Friday I took the day off of work to shop, but didn’t even head out until 900 am. My first stop was the mattress company here in town. They had mattresses on sale for $98 and I needed a bed. My son is coming home to visit and there is no bed for him since my daughter and granddaughter moved home in March. Then I bought a frame online for a platform bed with storage. Since we’re cleaning out the spare room to return it to the bedroom it originally was, storage is definitely needed.

Later, when I can breath and think, I’ll be going over my edits from Willow’s Cry. I’m only waiting on one beta reader to get back to me. I’ll fix the errors the others found before going over it again before official edits! Then the blurb and cover have to be completed. A never ending cycle. As slow as I’m going, and with Christmas ramping up (I work for the Post Office) I’m shooting for a January release date. That way I’m not frantic trying to get everything done at once.

So relax! Enjoy the holidays, and read up!

From Me to You ~ Sneak peek of Willow’s Cry

I’m checking out covers for my upcoming book Willow’s Cry. I’ve found a few base photos for the cover, but I can’t post one of them as I haven’t purchased it yet! Here are a couple I’m looking at. No decision yet, I’m trying to figure out photo shop! The program I use for teasers doesn’t put out good enough graphics to create a cover. So I learn photo shop or I pay someone to do the cover. I have time. Willow’s Cry is out with some of my beta readers, still needs edits and I have to do a blurb. Ack.

So, let me see if I can find a semi decent excerpt…

Willow’s Cry

Alex could see the effects of the storm as he got closer to the river running down the mountain. The older, weaker trees sported downed limbs, cracked where the wind ripped them away. The breeze made its way through the branches above seemed to whisper an apology at their cries.

Alex slowed, looking around. The damage horrific. Trees ripped up and torn out. Many others damaged, missing limbs, leaves and scorched in places. Mother Nature released a hell of a tantrum. The river muddy, rushing away debris swirling in it from higher up the mountain. It looked like a tornado hit. His breath rushed out. He’d never seen this much damage from a storm before. Alex could feel his heart ache as it beat, matching the rhythm of weeping wrapping around him.

Alex stopped, appalled at the sight, saddened at the cruel hand of Gaia. Head bowed, aching along with the trees, Alex swore he heard his name cried. Looking up, a grand old oak cantered over on its side, half of its roots ripped from the ground. Held up by a cracked and damaged willow tree.

Again, he heard his name and the eerie weeping seemed to lodge inside of him. Alex took a step forward, not knowing why, but needing to answer the call. He moved toward the tree and a man stepped toward him materializing from the trunk. Injured and dazed he reached toward Alex. Alex looked him at him and gasped. Stepping forward, he gently pulled him in his arms, careful not to injure him further.

“Father.”

“Alexander.” His name came out on a sigh from his father’s lips. “I need your help.”

“Here. Rest here and let me set up my tent.” Alex helped his father sit, letting him rest against the oak. He could see him change as he touched the tree, his skin changing to match the trunk. Alex pulled off his backpack and quickly set up his tent and sleeping bag.

“Alexander, you have to help Willow.” His father’s voice weak, thready.

“Father, let me help you first, then I will help the willow.” His father bowed his head, pain in his features and nodded. Alex could still hear the weeping echo through the trees, a sound of unutterable sadness. “Come, please. Lay down.”

“Alexander, I need to stay with my tree. If I have any hope of surviving, I have to stay with my tree.” A whisper from the man whose voice always boomed out whenever he spoke.

“I don’t understand.” Dazed, Alex sat next to him. How could this be real? “What are you? Why…how did you do that?”

From Me to You

Well, my Cubs won’t be Flying the W this year. Sad to say, we’re used to it. But we’ll always have 2016! No one can take that away. I waited my whole life for that. Winning this year would just have been icing on the cake. Congratulations to the LA Dodgers. (My husband is thrilled, lol. Dodgers are his team) I’m like Meh. But they did play really well.

Oh well, now I can get back to writing, lol.

I’m near the end of Willow’s Cry. Hopefully I will have it done this weekend and get to sending it to my beta readers. It is rough right now. While I write this, I’m debating whether or not to post a teaser. I mean really rough! I have to stop from reading from the beginning each day I write or I’ll never get done. Once I write The End, I’ll start going over it again. Get out the obvious issues. I already know one I left dangling.

Oh, heck, here’s an excerpt. Don’t mind my cringing, this is NOT the final version, far from it. I’m not even going to do anything other than post it. So here it is…

You can see my world as it first appears in Lightning Strike. Available on Amazon and in Kindle Unlimited.

Lightning Strike

For generations Levi’s family had guarded a sacred glen in the mountains.  Still far from man this isolated area was a favorite spot of his grandfather.  Levi grew up listening to his tales and fell in love without ever having stepped foot there.

Now Levi’s family, led by his grandmother, wanted to sell the land.  With only his grandfather and Levi against it, Levi has to prove to the rest of the family why they needed to continue their guardianship.  Believing in his grandfather’s tales despite himself, Levi went armed with his camera and his well-known expertise behind the lens and headed out for proof.

Providing that proof and protecting the secrets of the glen from the world, Gaia needs to convince Levi to continue that protection.  Daphnaie, the embodiment of his every dream, is sent to show him why, stealing his heart in the process to save her world.

She is lonely. He comes to her as she drifts off to sleep, the man of her dreams. Awake or asleep, which is her reality?

He knows she is the one meant for him. He will find a way to make both of their dreams come true.

Excerpt –

The darkness blurred and shimmered, bringing to life a man of moonlight and darkness: Aryne.

Before him Aryne could see her, lying in bed, tears of loneliness staining her pillow. She made his heart ache. He softly stepped to her side. His hand touched her face and gently pushed back her hair. He leaned over and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, turning her dreams from sadness to joy. Her body arched toward his touch as the skim of his hand, the heat of his skin traced the edges of her curves. He stepped back…and then within the shimmer of dreams disappeared.

Night after night her loneliness cried to him. Unable to resist, he came to her. Subtly he inserted himself into her dreams, into her arms. Aryne knew it was wrong. As a guide, his job was to bring sweet, peaceful dreams. But no one affected him like she had. He was unable to resist comforting her, drawing her into his arms, covering her body with his…but only in her dreams. There Aryne stole the passion from her lips, igniting an ache in his body that would not go away.

Touching her shattered him. He knew instinctively that her touch would be his downfall. Her touch could keep him here in this splinter of his world, isolated as all of the Outcasts were. Generations had gone by; those exiled had died long ago, their children mixing amongst the races of the universe.

He had tried to stay away, fearing this. He was adrift, swept away, drowning in her passion, breaths away from losing himself. Giving in, acknowledging the power she unknowingly had over him would condemn him, keep him here if she was unable to travel to his world. Very few could navigate between worlds. And this world would drain his power rather than enhance it. Even the short time he spent there took its toll on him, the drain only in abeyance when he was in her arms. Try as he might, he could not resist her siren call. Only by controlling her and the passion between them could he make sure that he would not become lost. Lost in her. Trapped forever in her world.

He had done his best, gentling her to his hand, to his control. She knew the unspoken rules, knew the consequences. He played them out in her dreams, a dark symphony of passion and restraint. Perhaps unforgivable for a guide, but he could not resist. And just her body was no longer enough. Eventually he would capture her heart and soul.

A man of shadows, it would be during the midnight hours of her slumber.

From me to you! Sitting in Milwaukee

Well, in just over an hour Brew City Book Signing starts!

What better way to spend a rainy day than surrounded by books. It’s my favorite!

Our author goody bags are awesome, lots of imprints for Brew City Book Signing and inside a cozy a Spotted Cow Ale! Here I wondered where they managed to dig up perrier, lol. Since both bottles are green.

We’re at the Best Western Plus Milwaukee Airport. Like, RIGHT THERE. The airport is across the street and I’ve yet to hear one plane. This place has some good windows!

I thought I’d be able to write this morning, but no. I’m here, saying come on over! It’s Noon to 4 for $10, unless you purchase VIP tickets which are only $15. Cheap at the price! The room is full of authors ready to chat and have fun! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/brew-city-book-signing-2017-tickets-26402680127

I’ve got my paperbacks for $10 and only $5 for Love Me Forever. Definitely a discount from Amazon! Plus they are autographed.

From Me to You

I’m heading into West Bend WI for the second to last signing of the season! If you don’t know, and I suppose I don’t really mention it, in my day job I’m a Postmaster. Once November hits the madness descends! A whirlwind of packages and cards and Holiday stamps. My life stops and picks up again in January, lol. For those two months nothing but the career I have spent 29 years doing happens.

I’ve tried NaNoWriMo in November a few times. BUT MY LIFE IS MADNESS by then. I’ll probably try again this year, knowing it is probably futile. I don’t have the time to go to meetings and share the spirit of camaraderie while I type my fingers to the bone. I hide in corners of my house typing away while getting up early to put in a word count. Shoveling food in during lunch hoping I don’t spill on my computer. Getting home means putting dinner on the table, corralling the granddaughter (who, praise the lord! is taking to potty training like a duck to water) and hopefully putting in a bit of a word count.

I guess I’ll have to wait and see!

Come on out and meet me while I’m happy, lol. I’ll smile again in January! (Just joking! I’m so upbeat I drive people crazy, lol.)

So I’m trying to get one of my books out before then. I just don’t know which one! It all depends on who talks louder in my head.

In the mean time, enjoy my books that are available!  https://www.amazon.com/Beverly-Ovalle/e/B00BOGT8MU/
